Philosopher Brew Tea
‘Philosopher’s Brew’, by Silk Road Tea Co., claims to be the “tea of enlightenment,” a label I found mildly pretentious until I had my first cup. After a sip or two of this brilliant brew, I did indeed feel that my perception of the world around me was much clearer than before. I also felt rather smug about my newfound wisdom in a cup, a smug feeling reminiscent of my days spent in the Philosophy department.
Philosopher’s Brew is a herbal tea with lemongrass as its primary flavour and aroma. However, the addition of rosehips and lavender blossoms not only helps to take the edge off the lemongrass with respect to taste, but also smoothes out the scent of this golden brew. What is left is a wholly luxurious and balanced tea experience, one that is two steps ahead of the usual lemony loveliness that is the average lemongrass tea.
Furthermore, while it is a herbal tea, Philosopher’s Brew is still one of the best good morning teas around. Certainly it’s not as bright and punchy as the swift kick one gets from a mug of peppermint tea. Instead, Philosopher’s Brew chooses to wake its drinker up in the same soothing yet refreshing way that a Sunday morning eventually wakes one up – slowly, and after a late morning of pajamas with the newspaper. Ultimately, my cup of enlightenment led me to feel alert and aware, yet peaceful. Engaged, but not overly so.
If you are looking for a reasoned and sound cup of herbal tea, brew a pot of this warm golden goodness. You will truly feel enlightened by ‘Philosopher’s Brew’
