Organic Tea at its Finest
Ever since buzz words such as green and eco-friendly became a part of every day vocabulary, organic fair trade companies have emerged from all corners of the planet. The London Tea Company hails from the U.K., though their philosophies on tea production have found international success, reaching consumers from North America to Asia. After finishing a sample kit with over seventy-two teas in mere weeks, this British company has become a staple in our Canadian household.
Like any high end tea producer, the London Tea Company boasts a large collection. With classic, gourmet, and herbal blends available in envelope bags, pyramid infusers, and loose leaves, one would be hard pressed not to find at least one flavour to enjoy. Their Lemongrass, Ginger, and Citrus Fruits is an exhilarating blend – light, fresh, and zesty, all the while being healthy. Exotic mixes such as this abound in the tea industry, giving tea time a welcome boost. However, as a traditionalist at heart, I find there's nothing better than a classic breakfast tea.
English Breakfast is a simple, black tea. As such, it's tempting for many to reinvent it with added spices and fruits. And after steeping for three minutes, the taste is exactly that. Drank black with no milk or sugar, it's easy to appreciate the rich, full flavour. This English Breakfast is smooth – much stronger than the average, non-organic variety with no bitter notes or lingering aftertaste. The London Tea Company's take on a classic is elegant while simultaneously simple and subtle. As a morning pick-me-up, it complements a full breakfast, though I've also enjoyed it mid-afternoon and after dinner with a sweet dessert.
